About Gorky Art Gallery

Gorky Art Gallery and art school , is named after the world renowned abstract expressionist artist Arshile Gorky. It was established in Toronto in 1979 as a non-profit organisation*.

The aims of the organization are;

- To expose the Canadian public to the artistic expressions and works of art of talented young and upcoming artists of our community.

- To support and promote Canadian and international artists and encourage young and upcoming Canadian-Armenian artists by providing space to exhibit and sell their works of art (paintings, sculpture etc.).

- To increase awareness of visual arts art by organizing workshops for the youth and adults supervised by professional artists. Art exhibitions are held throughout the year, via the Arshile Gorky Gallery, showcasing the works of local talented painters and sculptors, as well as works of artists from Armenia, Artsakh and various parts of the world. To date, there have been over 120 individual and group exhibitions. The workshops are very popular.

The youth workshops are led by art teacher Maria Avanessi. The Adult workshops are led by renowned artist Sirak Melkonian. More than 50 students take part in these workshops. Participants display their work through annual exhibitions, held at the Hamazkayin ‘H. Manougian’ library.

*Gorky Gallery and Art School, operates as an independent organization under the umbrella of the Hamazkayin Armenian Cultural Association of Toronto.
